Surat Police Seize Heroin Worth Over Rs 11 Lakh in Bharuch Operation

In a significant drug bust, the Special Operations Group (SOG) police in Bharuch, Surat, have seized 58.11 grams of heroin valued at approximately Rs 11.62 lakh. The operation led to the arrest of two individuals, who are now facing serious charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Tip-Off Leads to Swift Arrest

Police officials stated they received credible information about the suspects planning to sell heroin in Bharuch. Acting promptly on the tip-off, the SOG team apprehended Rakesh Mandal and Dipak Singh before they could execute their plans. The arrest occurred just as the duo prepared to return to their native place in Bihar, preventing a potential drug deal.

Evidence and Criminal History Uncovered

During the arrest, authorities confiscated not only the heroin but also small ziplock bags, silver foil, mobile phones, and railway tickets. Investigations revealed that both accused are history-sheeters with a prior criminal record. They were previously arrested in 2022 for a bank robbery in Ankleshwar, involving a sum of Rs 44 lakh.

Third Suspect Identified in Ongoing Probe

The police investigation has expanded to include a third individual, Santosh, whose involvement in the heroin case has been confirmed. All three suspects have been formally booked under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in the region.
