A devastating incident in Surat on Thursday morning claimed the lives of a young mother and her toddler son, sending shockwaves through the city. The duo died after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in the Bhatar area.
Chronology of a Tragedy
The incident unfolded around 10:30 am at the SMC Suman Avas housing scheme. The victims have been identified as 22-year-old Zaheeda Irfan Alam and her three-year-old son, Afan. The family resided in Azadnagar, and Zaheeda's husband works as a lab technician at a hospital in Vesu.
According to police, Zaheeda and Afan were not residents of the building they visited. They proceeded to the top floor and jumped from the gallery. The woman landed on a car parked inside the society premises, sustaining critical injuries. Tragically, the child died on the spot.
Investigation and Medical Details
Zaheeda was rushed to Surat Civil Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite doctors' efforts, she succumbed to her injuries around 6:30 pm. Preliminary police findings indicate that Zaheeda was undergoing treatment for migraine, which is being considered a possible factor behind the extreme step.
Khatodara police inspector Bhavesh Rabari stated that the exact reason is still under investigation. "Doctors tried to save the woman, but she died during treatment," he said. Notably, authorities have not recovered any suicide note or mobile phone from the scene.
Police Action and Ongoing Probe
The Khatodara police have registered a case of accidental death and are delving deeper into the circumstances that led to the tragedy. The investigation aims to piece together the events of the morning and understand the full context, including Zaheeda's medical history and state of mind.
This heartbreaking event has left the local community in mourning, raising poignant questions about mental health awareness and support systems. The police continue their inquiry to establish a clearer motive behind the fatal leap.
