In a shocking incident in Surat, a jeweller was shot after he bravely resisted a daylight loot attempt at his shop in Bilimora town, Navsari district, on Tuesday. The attack occurred at Chanchal Jewellers in the Gauhar Baug area, where two armed men entered with the clear intention of robbing the establishment.

According to police reports, the incident unfolded in the afternoon when the two robbers stormed into the shop brandishing a firearm. They threatened the owner, Ashok Katariya, demanding that he hand over valuable items from the store. However, displaying remarkable courage, Katariya confronted the assailants instead of complying with their demands.
This confrontation escalated quickly, leading one of the looters to fire a shot at Katariya. The jeweller sustained a bullet injury and fainted immediately after being hit. The bold resistance from Katariya, coupled with the commotion, forced the accused to abandon their robbery attempt and flee the scene, as it was carried out in broad daylight with potential witnesses nearby.
Escape and Police Response
The robbers had a third accomplice waiting for them in a hatchback car parked outside the shop. The trio made their escape in this vehicle, which notably did not have a number plate, complicating identification efforts. After the assailants fled, local residents rushed to the scene and promptly took Katariya to a private hospital for urgent medical treatment. They also informed the police about the violent incident.
Following the alert, law enforcement agencies sprang into action. Police set up multiple checkpoints across Navsari district and extended their search to neighbouring areas, including Valsad and Surat Rural. A comprehensive combing operation has been launched to trace and apprehend the suspects involved in this brazen crime.
