Surat Market Fire Causes Widespread Damage Near Petrol Pump
A severe fire broke out in a commercial area of Surat on Wednesday night. The incident occurred in a tin-shed structure housing several shops near Sudama Chowk in Mota Varachha. Flames caused extensive damage to multiple businesses before firefighters could bring the situation under control.
Fire Erupts Close to Fuel Station
The Surat Fire and Emergency Services received an emergency call around 10:12 PM. Officials immediately dispatched multiple fire tenders to the location. The fire triggered significant panic among local residents because the burning market sits just a few meters away from a petrol pump. This proximity raised serious safety concerns during the emergency response.
Rapid Spread and Substantial Losses
Fire officials reported that the blaze originated in one shop. It then spread rapidly throughout the tin-shed structure. The building's combustible construction and flammable materials stored inside the shops contributed to the quick escalation. One shop selling toys and cycles suffered complete destruction. At least three other establishments experienced partial damage. These included a furniture shop, a tea stall, and an office space.
Massive Firefighting Operation
To combat the intense flames, fire authorities deployed a substantial force. They brought in 16 firefighting vehicles from 10 different stations across the city. This coordinated effort proved crucial in preventing the fire from spreading further and potentially reaching the nearby petrol pump. After several hours of work, firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control.
