Police in Bhiwadi's Phoolbagh area made a startling arrest on Friday. They apprehended a software engineer who allegedly tried to impersonate a high-ranking IPS officer right at the police station itself.
The Bold Impersonation Attempt
According to Phoolbagh Station House Officer Sachin Sharma, the incident unfolded on Friday night. The accused individual arrived at the police station gate driving a Scorpio vehicle. The word 'Police' was clearly written on this car.
He immediately told the sentry on duty that he was an IPS officer. The man claimed he held the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) and was posted with the elite Special Protection Group (SPG). He stated he was on a special mission and demanded immediate arrangements for a hotel room to stay overnight.
Suspicion and Verification
The sentry promptly informed SHO Sachin Sharma about the unusual visitor. Officer Sharma grew suspicious and decided to investigate further. Police personnel made the man sit in a cabin while they began verifying his claims. Authorities also informed the Superintendent of Police for Bhiwadi about the situation.
Their verification process quickly revealed the truth. Police checks confirmed that no IPS officer named Saurabh Kumar was posted with the SPG. When officers pressed him for proper identification, he produced an ID card bearing SPG and AIG insignia. Police examination determined this card was completely fake.
The Accused and His Methods
The arrested individual has been identified as Saurabh Kumar, a 34-year-old man originally from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. He was currently residing in Delhi and working as a software engineer.
During interrogation, Kumar reportedly disclosed to investigators that he possessed detailed knowledge about the facilities, security protocols, and various privileges granted to IPS officers. He allegedly misused this knowledge to get a fake IPS identification card manufactured.
Police said he had also gotten the word 'Police' written on his personal Scorpio vehicle. He used this modified vehicle to pass himself off as a senior police officer in different areas. Through this deception, he managed to obtain special facilities at several locations.
Evidence Seized and Investigation Ongoing
Phoolbagh police have registered a formal case regarding this incident. Officers have seized the fake documents and the Scorpio vehicle used in the impersonation. From Kumar's possession, police also recovered a dummy walkie-talkie, his passport, and a bank passbook.
Investigators are now working to determine where else the accused may have carried out similar fraudulent activities. They are examining whether any larger network was involved in this impersonation scheme. The case remains under active investigation as police piece together the full extent of the deception.
