Skeletons of Eloped Teenage Couple Discovered Hanging in Valmiki Tiger Reserve Forest
In a chilling discovery that has sent shockwaves through the region, police recovered two skeletons hanging from a tree in the dense Madanpur forest range within West Champaran's Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR). The grim find was made under the jurisdiction of the Laukariya police station on Thursday, revealing a tragic tale of young love cut short.
Discovery and Initial Investigation
The investigation began when local shepherds ventured into the Rampur Mataura Tola forest area within the tiger reserve and stumbled upon the horrifying scene. They immediately alerted authorities at the Laukariya police station about the two skeletons suspended from a tree. Responding swiftly to the information, a comprehensive team comprising officers from Laukariya police station, the Ramnagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), the Ramnagar inspector, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team rushed to the remote location.
At the site, investigators meticulously collected crucial evidence including clothing items, a pair of slippers, and a cellphone found near the skeletal remains. These items, combined with preliminary questioning of local residents, helped establish the identities of the deceased.
Identification and Tragic Backstory
Police confirmed the skeletons belonged to a 14-year-old girl and a 20-year-old boy who had captured local attention when they eloped together in September of the previous year. The tragic dimension of the case deepened when Bagaha Superintendent of Police Ramanand Kaushal revealed that the girl's family had officially filed a kidnapping complaint with intent to marry at the Laukariya police station on September 16 last year.
"Police had been actively searching for the young couple since the complaint was filed," stated SP Kaushal. "Their skeletons were recovered approximately four months later, marking a sorrowful conclusion to the search."
Forensic Examination and Ongoing Investigation
The skeletal remains have been carefully sent for detailed forensic examination and post-mortem analysis to determine the exact cause and time of death. Police are exploring multiple angles in this complex case, with particular attention to whether this tragedy resulted from an honor killing or a double suicide.
"The remains have been sent for forensic examination and a post-mortem," emphasized SP Kaushal. "The police are investigating several aspects of the case, including whether it was a case of honour killing or suicide. Further action will be taken after thorough investigation."
The discovery within the protected Valmiki Tiger Reserve adds another layer of complexity to the investigation, as authorities must navigate both criminal procedures and environmental considerations in this sensitive forest area known for its rich biodiversity and conservation significance.
