The Amritsar police have apprehended six individuals accused of stealing electric motor wires from agricultural fields across several villages. The thieves allegedly extracted copper by burning the stolen wires, causing significant disruption to farming operations.

Arrests and Recovery

The police registered a case under Sections 303(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused were produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody. During the investigation, authorities recovered approximately 5 kg of copper obtained from burning the stolen wires.

ASI Rashpal Singh stated that the arrested individuals include Lucky Singh of Maqboolpura, Salman Singh of Bihar, Talwinder Singh of Kotli Baba Das (Hoshiarpur), Gautam Singh of Uttar Pradesh, Sajan of Sultanwind village, and Ravi Singh of Delhi. They were residing in shanties at Chhapa Ram Singh village at the time of their arrest.

Details of Thefts

Sukhwinder Singh of Raipur Kalan village first discovered that copper wires connecting his electric motor to the power cable were missing. The theft occurred during the night of June 20 and 21. Similarly, Ajit Pal Singh, Jaspal Singh, Vivekdeep Singh, Manpreet Singh, and Gurbaz Singh, all residents of Nawan Pind village, reported the theft of wires from their tubewells.

In total, the accused stole wires from 12 tubewells in the area, impacting local agriculture and causing financial losses to the farmers. The police continue to investigate whether the suspects are linked to similar incidents in nearby regions.
