Sirsa: Elderly couple dies by suicide in Kheri village

A tragic incident has shaken the Kheri village in Sirsa district, where an elderly couple ended their lives on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as 63-year-old Ramchandra and his 60-year-old wife, Mahendri Devi.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy

According to police officials, the couple, who had been suffering from prolonged illness, took the extreme step inside their home. Preliminary investigations suggest that Ramchandra first administered poison to his wife and then consumed it himself. The incident reportedly took place while both were inside a room of their house.

Neighbours reported hearing loud noises from the couple's residence but did not intervene initially. In a critical turn, Ramchandra himself called the emergency service Dial 112 to inform them about the incident after consuming the poison.

Police Response and Hospitalisation

Acting swiftly on the information received via Dial 112, police teams rushed to the spot. They found the main gate of the house locked. The couple's son, Dholu, who lives separately with his family in the same village, was also informed and reached the location.

Upon gaining entry, police found both Ramchandra and Mahendri Devi unconscious. They were immediately rushed to the Sirsa civil hospital for medical attention. Doctors declared Mahendri Devi dead on arrival. Her husband, Ramchandra, succumbed to the poison shortly after.

Family Background and Ongoing Investigation

The police confirmed that the couple had three daughters and a son, all of whom are married and settled. The family had been living separately from their son. Mahendri Devi had been battling a long-term illness, which is believed to be a primary factor behind this desperate act.

Kaagadana police outpost in-charge Deepak Sharma interacted with local media, confirming the receipt of information through Dial 112. Post-mortem examinations have been conducted, and the bodies were subsequently handed over to the grieving family members. Police have stated that a further investigation into the complete circumstances of the incident is currently underway.
