Seven Injured in Dharmapuri Van Accident on Sogathur Highway
A tourist van carrying devotees overturned on Sogathur highway in Dharmapuri on Saturday morning. The accident left seven people injured, including a 15-year-old boy.
Details of the Accident
The van was returning to Bagur village in Krishnagiri district. It had just visited Om Shakti Temple at Melmaruvathur and Palani Murugan Temple. Police say the driver lost control of the vehicle.
V Mathesh, 32, of Denkanikottai was driving the van. He lost control while traveling on Sogathur highway. The van crashed into the median and overturned.
Injured Victims Identified
All injured individuals are residents of Bagur village. Police identified them as:
- Nagammal, 41
- Shalini, 19
- Ramakkal, 60
- Lakshmi, 45
- Irammal, 65
- Manjunath, 33
- Shashanth, 15
The youngest victim is 15-year-old Shashanth. The oldest is 65-year-old Irammal.
Police Response and Investigation
Dharmapuri town police responded quickly to the accident. They rescued the injured and took them to Dharmapuri Government Medical College and Hospital.
All victims are in stable condition according to hospital reports. Police have registered a case and are conducting an inquiry into the accident.
The van was carrying 25 devotees at the time of the accident. Only seven sustained injuries in the crash. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the driver losing control.
