Saudi Arabia Arrests 14,487 Illegal Residents in Major Nationwide Crackdown
Saudi Arabia has conducted a significant nationwide operation, resulting in the arrest of 14,487 illegal residents over a one-week period, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Interior. The crackdown, which took place from April 9 to April 15, involved coordinated efforts by security forces and various government agencies to enforce immigration and labor laws.
Breakdown of Arrests and Violations
Of those detained, authorities detailed specific violations: 7,911 individuals were found to be in breach of residency laws, 3,588 had violated border security regulations, and 2,988 were involved in labor law infractions. This comprehensive sweep highlights the Kingdom's intensified focus on maintaining legal order and security within its borders.
Deportation and Legal Procedures
The ministry reported that 21,127 people have been referred to their respective diplomatic missions to obtain necessary travel documents, while 11,240 are currently finalizing their travel arrangements. To date, 12,554 individuals have been deported from the country. Additionally, 39,258 expatriates—comprising 35,460 men and 3,798 women—are undergoing legal procedures as part of the ongoing enforcement actions.
Interceptions and Nationality Data
During the operation, security forces intercepted 1,382 individuals attempting to enter Saudi Arabia illegally. Officials disclosed that 38% of these interceptions were Yemeni nationals, 61% were Ethiopian, and the remaining 1% belonged to other nationalities. Furthermore, 43 people were apprehended while trying to leave the country unlawfully.
Penalties for Assisting Violators
In a stern warning, the Ministry of Interior announced that 23 individuals were arrested for aiding violators by providing transportation, shelter, or employment. Those found guilty of such assistance could face severe penalties, including up to 15 years in prison and fines reaching SR1 million. Authorities also emphasized that vehicles and properties used in these illegal activities may be subject to confiscation.
