Sangrur Police Crack Blind Murder Case, Arrest 3 & Recover Jewellery
Sangrur Police Solve Lehragaga Murder, Arrest 3

In a significant breakthrough, the Sangrur police have successfully solved a blind murder case from Lehragaga, leading to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of stolen silver and artificial jewellery. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sartaj Singh Chahal announced the details of the crackdown.

Robbery Turns Fatal in Lehra Village

The case dates back to the intervening night of January 2 and 3, 2024. According to police reports, three unidentified men forcibly entered the house of Krishan Kumar (35), also known as Neeta, a resident of Lehra, with the intent to commit robbery. During the incident, the assailants looted approximately Rs 15,000 in cash along with jewellery. Tragically, Krishan Kumar sustained severe injuries and later succumbed, transforming the robbery into a murder investigation.

Swift Police Action and Arrests

Following a formal complaint lodged by the deceased's relative, Jatinder Kumar, an FIR was registered at the Lehra Police Station. The case was filed under relevant sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), corresponding to Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

SSP Chahal stated that the investigation was spearheaded by Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Davinder Atri, under the supervision of DSP (Detective) Daljit Singh Virk and DSP (Lehra Sub-Division) Ranbir Singh. A coordinated effort involving multiple teams, including the CIA staff and local police personnel, combined technical analysis with ground-level inquiries.

This meticulous probe led to the arrest of three local men on January 6. The accused were identified as:

  • Akashdeep Sharma (23) alias Lucky
  • Manpreet Singh (25) alias Biru
  • Sunny Kumar (21) alias Mangal

All are residents of the Lehra area. Based on further investigation, additional charges under the BNS, equivalent to robbery and lurking house-trespass, were added to the case.

Key Findings and Recovery

The police successfully recovered the silver and artificial jewellery allegedly stolen during the crime. Preliminary investigations suggest a possible motive linked to mutual monetary transactions. Notably, two of the accused were in the same profession (confectionery) as the victim and lived in the same locality, which police believe facilitated the crime.

"During the course of the robbery, the accused murdered Krishan Kumar. Further interrogation is underway, and we expect more crucial revelations," stated SSP Chahal.

In a disturbing detail, police revealed that the accused also tied the hands and mouth of Krishan Kumar's mother but did not physically injure her. The SSP added that, except for Manpreet Singh, the other two accused were habitual offenders with a history of criminal activity.

The swift resolution of this blind murder case highlights the effective use of technical and traditional investigative methods by the Sangrur police under the new legal framework of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
