A shocking and tragic incident has unfolded in the Karmala tehsil of Sangli district, where a 32-year-old father allegedly pushed his seven-year-old twin children into a well before attempting to take his own life. The devastating event occurred on Saturday morning in an ancestral field in Hingani village.
The Horrific Sequence of Events
According to police officials, the accused, identified as Suhas Jadhav, took his twins, a boy and a girl, to his farm on Saturday. The children, Shivansh and Shreya, were students of Class I. Once at the field, Jadhav is alleged to have pushed both children into a half-filled well. He then reportedly called his family members to inform them of his horrific act.
Family members immediately rushed to the spot. Upon arrival, they found the body of the girl, Shreya, floating in the water. With the help of members from the local fishermen community, they managed to recover the body of the boy, Shivansh, which was stuck in the sediment at the bottom of the well.
Father Found in Critical Condition
At the scene, police discovered a bottle of pesticide near the well. Suhas Jadhav, who worked as an electric operator for Mahavitaran, was found nearby in a critical state. He was gasping for breath with foam coming out of his mouth, having consumed the pesticide in an attempt to end his life.
Jadhav was rushed to Solapur's Civil Hospital for emergency treatment. More than 36 hours after the incident, he remains under medical observation, fighting for his life. The police have confirmed that the exact motive behind the extreme step of killing his children is still unclear and under investigation.
Police Probe into Possible Motives
Inspector Ranjit Patil of the Karmala police station provided details of the ongoing investigation. The police have learned that there was some domestic dispute at home on Saturday morning. Following this, Jadhav left with the children, telling his family that he needed their help with some work in the field.
"We found that he wanted to end his life as he was going through depression. However, we do not yet know why he decided to kill his children too," stated Inspector Patil. The police are piecing together the events and examining all angles, including Jadhav's mental state and the nature of the family dispute, to ascertain what led to this heartbreaking tragedy that has left the village of Hingani in deep mourning.
