Jaipur Consumer Court Takes Action Against Salman Khan

The District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission No. 2 in Jaipur made a significant move on Thursday. It issued a bailable warrant of Rs 10,000 against Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The court took this step because Khan allegedly continued to endorse a pan masala product through misleading advertisements.

Court Directs Actor to Appear on February 6

The commission has clearly instructed Salman Khan to appear before it on February 6. Commission president Gyarsilal Meena also ordered the police commissioner to ensure the execution of the warrant. This order came during a hearing on a contempt petition filed by Yogendra Singh.

Petitioner Alleges Misleading Claims About Saffron

According to the petition, Rajshree Pan Masala was promoted through advertisements that allegedly misled the public. The ads claimed the product was made with saffron, known locally as kesar. Yogendra Singh argued that such claims create a false impression of safety and quality.

Singh emphasized the health risks associated with pan masala consumption. He stated that it is widely known to be linked to serious health issues, including cancer. The court's action highlights growing concerns over celebrity endorsements of potentially harmful products.

This case underscores the importance of truthful advertising in India. Consumer protection bodies are increasingly scrutinizing endorsements that may deceive the public. The warrant serves as a reminder to celebrities about their responsibility in promoting products.
