Salem Woman Brutally Murdered by Family Members Over Suspected Affairs
A horrific crime has shaken the Kondappanaickenpatti area near Salem. A 44-year-old woman named T Kanakavalli was hacked to death on January 15. Her own family members committed this brutal act. The perpetrators included her 18-year-old son from her first marriage, her second husband L Thavasiyappan, and her 24-year-old nephew S Manikandan.
Gruesome Details of the Crime
Police investigations reveal a chilling sequence of events. The trio attacked Kanakavalli with sharp weapons. They killed her because they suspected her of having extramarital affairs. After the murder, they attempted to destroy evidence. They burnt her body and buried the skeletal remains near her nephew's house.
The crime remained hidden for several days. Then on Friday night, the three men surrendered voluntarily. They appeared before a village administrative officer and confessed to the murder. The officer recorded their statements carefully. He then handed them over to the Kannankurichi police station on Saturday morning.
Police Investigation Unfolds
Police had initially registered a missing person case. Kanakavalli's sister S Rasathi had filed a complaint about her disappearance. Officers changed the case to murder after the confessions. They arrested all three suspects promptly.
Investigators discovered strong motives behind the killing. Thavasiyappan suspected his wife's fidelity. Her teenage son also harbored resentment about her character. The nephew Manikandan assisted them in carrying out the deadly plan.
Family Background and Relationships
Kanakavalli's personal history played a role in this tragedy. She was first married to a man named Palaniswami. They separated due to differences, and their son stayed with the father. Later, Kanakavalli married Thavasiyappan. They had two children together - a son and a daughter.
Both Kanakavalli and Thavasiyappan worked as loom workers. The 18-year-old son from her first marriage had been living with his cousin Manikandan for three months. He worked in masonry alongside his relative.
Sister's Suspicion Leads to Discovery
Rasathi, the victim's sister, provided crucial information to police. She revealed that her nephew had expressed doubts about his mother's character. On January 13, Rasathi heard that Kanakavalli was visiting Manikandan's house. She spoke with her sister on January 15.
The next day brought alarming developments. Rasathi tried calling Kanakavalli's mobile phone repeatedly. She received no response. Growing suspicious, she approached the police formally. Her complaint set the investigation in motion.
Authorities have remanded all three accused in judicial custody. Police continue their investigations into this disturbing family crime. They are examining all evidence and statements thoroughly.
