A shocking incident of attempted robbery and violence unfolded in Saharsa district on Saturday evening, leaving a 35-year-old student injured. The victim, identified as Neeraj Kumar Mishra, was shot at by three criminals on a bike near a fuel station on the Aaran-Bishanpur main road.
Bravery Amidst Gunfire: The Attack Sequence
The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Bihra police station area. According to eyewitness accounts, Neeraj, a resident of ward number 10 in Jagatpur village, was returning to his home on his own motorcycle. He was intercepted by the three bike-borne assailants who attempted to rob him. When Neeraj showed resistance, the criminals opened fire. Three shots were fired, two of which struck Neeraj in his thigh.
Displaying immense courage despite his injuries, Neeraj managed to ride his bike to a nearby hospital to seek immediate medical help. It was there that he contacted his friend, Aryant Kumar, and informed him about the brutal attack. Aryant revealed that earlier in the day, they had visited a bookstore at Thana Chowk before Neeraj embarked on his fateful journey back to Jagatpur village.
Medical Treatment and Police Investigation
Neeraj Kumar Mishra is currently undergoing treatment at a private nursing home. His condition is reported to be stable. Dr. Ajay Singh, who is treating him, confirmed that the two bullets are lodged in his thigh but, fortunately, no vital organs were damaged in the shooting.
On the legal front, Om Prakash Kumar, the DSP of Police Lines, stated that a thorough investigation is underway. "The police are investigating the incident and reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprits," he said. The authorities are exploring all possible motives, including robbery and personal enmity. As part of the probe, Neeraj's friends and acquaintances are also being questioned to gather more leads. The police have assured that active efforts are being made to apprehend the attackers and bring them to justice.
Background of the Victim
The injured youth, Neeraj, is a student pursuing a Master of Education (M.Ed) degree at the College of Teacher Education in Saharsa. The attack on a student in a public area has raised concerns about law and order in the region.
