Rs 60 Lakh Stolen from Ex-Bureaucrat's GK Home

In a shocking incident, valuables estimated at a staggering Rs 60 lakh were stolen from the residence of a former bureaucrat in the upscale Greater Kailash area of South Delhi. The theft occurred while the family was out of town, grieving the tragic death of their son.

Discovery of the Burglary

The crime came to light on Friday when the owner's nephew, Rajan Jain, who resides in Block E of Greater Kailash Enclave II, made a startling discovery. He noticed the main gate of his uncle's house was open and upon entering, found the premises in complete disarray, with household articles scattered everywhere. Jain immediately alerted the authorities by making a PCR call to the Chittaranjan Park police station.

Family's Tragic Absence

Police officials revealed that the house's owner, the former bureaucrat, was not in Delhi at the time of the incident. He had travelled out of the city following the untimely death of his son. This unfortunate circumstance left the property vulnerable. "Jain informed us that the house belongs to his uncle, who was out of Delhi as his son had passed away," stated a police officer involved in the case.

After being contacted by the police, the distraught owner provided a preliminary list of stolen articles. Preliminary investigations indicate that at least five high-value items were taken by the burglars. The former bureaucrat is expected to return to Delhi and his ransacked home on Saturday to assess the full extent of the loss.

Police Investigation Underway

The Chittaranjan Park police have registered a case and have begun a thorough investigation into the brazen theft. The incident has sent ripples of concern through the affluent neighbourhood, highlighting security vulnerabilities even in posh localities. Forensic teams are likely to examine the scene for evidence, and police are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the perpetrators.

This high-value theft underscores a worrying trend of targeted burglaries in South Delhi's affluent colonies, especially when residents are known to be away. The police are urging citizens to inform their local stations and neighbours when leaving town for extended periods and to ensure robust security measures are in place.
