In a significant public event aimed at restoring faith in law enforcement, the Davanagere district police successfully returned stolen property valued at a staggering Rs 20.3 crore to its rightful owners on Friday. The special parade, held at the District Police Parade Ground, marked the culmination of extensive investigative operations against thefts across the region.

Massive Recovery Operation Culminates in Public Ceremony

The event was spearheaded by Inspector General of Police (Eastern Range) BR Ravikante Gowda and presided over by Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth. It showcased the force's dedication to not only solving crimes but also ensuring that recovered items find their way back to the victims. The police had conducted rigorous operations to crack theft cases reported until November 30, leading to the identification of the accused and the subsequent recovery of stolen goods.

With the necessary permissions from the court, the police organized this property return parade to directly hand over the recovered assets. Senior officers emphasized that such initiatives bridge the gap between the police and the community, demonstrating tangible results of their work.

Breakdown of the Recovered Stolen Property

The scale of the recovery is monumental, reflecting the efficiency of the Davanagere police. The items returned during the parade included:

  • 24.7 kg of gold jewellery, valued at Rs 19,64,52,459.
  • 26.6 kg of silver jewellery, worth Rs 24,35,362.
  • Cash amounting to Rs 85,68,938.
  • 90 vehicles of various models, valued at Rs 46,28,517.
  • 492 mobile phones of different models, worth Rs 73,80,000.
  • Agricultural equipment and other miscellaneous items valued at Rs 16,81,000.

The cumulative value of all returned property stood at Rs 20,38,32,459. The police also highlighted that these recoveries were linked to the resolution of 173 cases in the year 2025.

Senior Officers and Public Laud the Initiative

The property return parade saw a notable gathering of district police officials and citizens. Alongside IGP Ravikante Gowda and SP Uma Prashanth, the event was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police Parameshwar Hegde, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sam Varghese, and several Deputy Superintendents of Police including Davanagere Rural DySP Basavaraj BS and Davanagere Urban sub-division DySP Sharanabasaveshwar B.
