Rewari police have made GPS installation mandatory for taxis and commercial vehicles and directed operators to verify passengers before accepting bookings. The measures were announced at a meeting at Kasola police station chaired by Bawal DSP Surender Sheoran and attended by taxi operators, fleet owners, transporters and senior police officials.
Enhancing Security Through Technology
Sheoran said commercial vehicles often play an important role in law enforcement investigations and that technology-driven monitoring and passenger verification would enhance security and accountability in the transport sector. Under the guidelines, all taxis and commercial transport vehicles operating in the district will have to install GPS-enabled tracking systems. Police said real-time tracking would facilitate quicker response during emergencies, accidents, thefts and criminal incidents.
Passenger Verification Requirements
Operators have also been directed to maintain records of passengers, including their name, mobile number, permanent address and valid identity proof, such as Aadhaar card or driving licence. Police advised transporters not to accept bookings from unidentified individuals without proper verification. These steps aim to improve safety for both drivers and passengers while aiding law enforcement in crime prevention.
