Revenue Officials Attacked During Land Demarcation in Kullu Village

A disturbing incident unfolded in Raogi village of Kullu district on Friday. A team of revenue officials faced a violent assault while performing their official duties.

Alleged Attack by BDC Chairman and Relatives

The officials were demarcating an encroached piece of land. According to reports, the chairman of the Naggar block development council, Khek Ram, along with his relatives, allegedly attacked them. Panchayat members were present during the incident.

The team included a patwari named Bhoop Singh and a kanungo. They had visited the village to verify encroachment complaints filed by local residents against the BDC chairman.

Patwari Suffers Injuries, Details Harrowing Experience

Bhoop Singh sustained injuries to his face and head during the assault. He later recounted the terrifying ordeal to mediapersons.

"When we were demarcating the land, Khek Singh arrived with a few men and started threatening us," Singh said. "First, they assaulted the kanungo and then started beating me. A policeman tried to protect me, but he was outnumbered. I literally ran for my life as they kept hitting me with batons."

Singh was subsequently admitted to the Kullu zonal hospital for treatment. His complaint to the police details threats and physical violence from the chairman and his group.

Political Reactions and Broader Implications

The incident has drawn political attention. BJP leader and former chief minister Jai Ram Thakur visited the injured patwari in the hospital.

Speaking to the media, Thakur criticized the current state administration. He claimed that lawlessness has increased in the state under the Congress rule.

This case highlights tensions over land disputes and the challenges faced by ground-level officials enforcing the law. The attack occurred despite the presence of two police personnel accompanying the revenue team, raising serious concerns about safety and authority in such situations.
