In a significant crackdown on the illicit drug trade, the Ranchi police have seized a substantial quantity of addictive cough syrup and apprehended two individuals involved in its sale. The operation, which underscores the ongoing drive against narcotics in the region, took place on Friday evening.
Police Operation Near Bodia
The action was carried out by a team from the Kanke police station near the Bodia area. As part of a routine checking drive targeting criminals and illegal substances, officers intercepted two suspects arriving on separate scooters. The accused, identified as Binod Gopa and Nayan Sen, attempted to flee upon seeing the police but were swiftly captured.
Interrogation and Confession
Following their arrest, Gopa and Sen were interrogated by the police. During questioning, they confessed to their involvement in the illegal trade. The police recovered a total of 45 bottles of cough syrup from their possession. This chemical, often abused for its addictive properties, is a known concern for law enforcement agencies battling substance abuse.
The accused revealed to the authorities that they were engaged in selling these cough syrup bottles at inflated prices in several localities within the Ranchi district. Their operational areas included Bodia, Edalhatu, and Chirundi, where they profited from the demand for the intoxicating substance.

This seizure is a direct result of the police's sustained campaign against illegal drugs and criminal activities in Jharkhand's capital.
