In a significant move to bolster public safety, the senior superintendent of police (SSP) in Ranchi, Rakesh Ranjan, has issued a strict one-week deadline for all restaurants and bars across the city. The directive mandates the completion of police verification for every employee on their payrolls.
One-Week Deadline for Comprehensive Staff Checks
The order, driven by security concerns and the imperative to maintain law and order, leaves no room for exceptions. It applies to all staff members, including cooks, waiters, bartenders, cleaning personnel, and security staff. Owners have been instructed to submit the necessary employee documents to their respective local police stations within the stipulated seven-day period.
SSP Ranjan emphasized that this proactive step is aimed at preventing criminal activities and fostering a safer environment for both customers and employees. The directive was formally communicated during a meeting convened by the SSP with restaurant and bar owners on Wednesday.
Immediate Reporting of Incidents and Vigilance on Substances
During the crucial meeting, police officials highlighted recurring issues that have prompted this crackdown. Prakash Soye, the Kotwali deputy superintendent of police (DSP), pointed out a troubling pattern. "In the past few days, several incidents of brawls and altercations among customers have come to our notice," he stated.
DSP Soye explained that often, when fights break out inside bars, the management simply asks the involved parties to leave, leading to the altercations spilling onto the streets and further disturbing public order. Therefore, owners have now been instructed to immediately report any untoward incident directly to the nearest police station, enabling a swift response.
Furthermore, the police addressed concerns regarding illicit activities. While tips about the use of prohibited substances in some city bars were found to be unsubstantiated upon verification, owners have been told to remain extremely vigilant. They must inform the police instantly if they observe any such activities on their premises.
Legal Consequences for Non-Compliance
The police have made it clear that this is not merely an advisory. The guidelines come with teeth. Failure to comply with the verification order or the reporting protocols will result in legal action against the establishment owners. This firm stance underscores the administration's commitment to using all available measures to ensure the city's hospitality sector operates without compromising public safety.
The move is expected to create a more accountable framework for businesses serving the public, directly linking their operational licenses to responsible conduct and cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
