In a shocking development in the Ranchi dentist rape case, police have arrested a 26-year-old woman, the host of the birthday party where the alleged crime occurred, for attempting to tamper with evidence. The arrest was made on Tuesday, with authorities revealing the disturbing details on Wednesday.

Friendship Betrayed: Survivor and Accused Were Best Friends

The 25-year-old survivor and the arrested woman were reportedly best friends, adding a layer of betrayal to this heinous crime. The incident took place on April 9 during a birthday celebration that turned traumatic.

Multiple Arrests Made as Investigation Intensifies

Earlier on Tuesday, police arrested two men from West Bengal:

  • The main accused, aged 27 years
  • His friend, also 27 years, who attempted to suppress information about the incident

The boyfriend of the arrested woman, who hosted the birthday party, remains at large as police continue their search.

How the Crime Unfolded

SP Paras Rana provided crucial details about the sequence of events:

  1. The survivor fell ill after consuming cake and pizza at the party
  2. The main accused took advantage of her vulnerable state and allegedly raped her
  3. When the survivor attempted to contact police, the host woman prevented her from doing so

"Police also unearthed evidence of the woman trying to hide vital information regarding the crime," Rana emphasized.

Anonymous Tip Leads to Police Action

The case came to light through an anonymous call made by one of the survivor's friends on Sunday. "When we contacted her, she shared details of the incident, prompting us to launch a search for the accused," explained SP Rana.

Two of the accused fled upon learning that the survivor had informed police. An FIR has been registered against all three arrested individuals under relevant sections of BNS, and they have been sent to jail.

Medical Community Rallies in Support

The junior doctors' association of RIMS protested on Wednesday, expressing solidarity with the survivor and demanding:

  • A speedy trial
  • Strict punishment for the accused

This case has highlighted serious concerns about safety at social gatherings and the importance of preserving evidence in criminal investigations.
