Rajkot Revenue Clerk Assaulted and Threatened While Performing Election Duties

In a shocking incident at the Jamkandorna mamlatdar's office in Rajkot district, a revenue clerk was allegedly assaulted and threatened by a local resident while discharging crucial election-related duties on Wednesday. The altercation has raised serious concerns about the safety of public servants during election periods.

Violent Confrontation During Election Work

The complainant, Pushparajsinh Chudasama, was performing his official responsibilities alongside three colleagues—Sumit Jaru, Haresh Gohil, and Jayesh Vaghela—when the incident occurred around 3:30 PM. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed at Jamkandorna police station, the accused, identified only as Nilesh, entered the office demanding immediate attention to his application.

When Chudasama explained he was occupied with pressing election work and directed Nilesh to submit his application at the registry desk, the situation quickly escalated. The accused became visibly agitated and initiated a heated argument, attempting to pressure officials by recording video on his mobile phone.

Physical Assault and Death Threats

After briefly leaving for the deputy mamlatdar's office, Nilesh returned and began banging his fists violently on Chudasama's desk. When the revenue clerk attempted to intervene, the situation turned physical. Nilesh allegedly grabbed Chudasama by the collar, verbally abused him, and delivered a slap to his face before colleagues could separate them.

Before fleeing the scene, the accused issued multiple threats, including:

  • Threatening to frame Chudasama in a false atrocity case
  • Issuing a direct death threat, stating he would "kill him today"

Official Response and Legal Action

Chudasama immediately reported the incident to his superiors and subsequently filed a formal police complaint for obstruction of a public servant's duty and assault. The Jamkandorna police have officially registered the FIR under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:

  1. Section 121(1)
  2. Section 351(3)
  3. Section 352

This incident highlights the increasing challenges faced by election officials during local body elections and underscores the need for enhanced security measures at government offices. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to apprehend the accused and ensure justice for the assaulted revenue clerk.
