Rajasthan Police Nabs Key Drug Trafficker in Kolkata After Eight-Year Search
The Anti-Narcotics Task Force of Rajasthan Police made a significant breakthrough on Friday. They arrested a man from Kolkata who had been evading capture for eight long years. This individual faces multiple charges related to mephedrone drug trafficking across several states.
Accused Identified as Key Figure in Narco Trade
Inspector General Vikas Kumar of the ANTF identified the arrested man as Ramesh Kumar. He is thirty-one years old and originally hails from Dhorimanna in Barmer district. Kumar described Ramesh as a central player in Rajasthan's narcotics trade.
"Our investigation shows that several MD manufacturing units busted in recent years in Jodhpur, Barmer, and Sirohi had connections to the accused," stated IG Vikas Kumar. He emphasized that Ramesh Kumar is a key figure in this illegal network.
Wanted Across Five States with Numerous Cases
Police records reveal a extensive criminal history for the accused. He has cases registered against him in five different states: Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Karnataka. The numbers are staggering.
According to officials, the accused himself disclosed involvement in approximately fifteen to seventeen cases in Rajasthan alone. He mentioned eight cases in Gujarat, three in Telangana, two in Maharashtra, and one in Karnataka. Authorities are currently verifying all these details.
Mastermind of Mephedrone Manufacturing and Trafficking
The agency's statement points to Ramesh Kumar as a suspected key operator. He allegedly specialized in the manufacture and trafficking of mephedrone, commonly known as MD, in western Rajasthan. Police believe he learned drug manufacturing techniques during his time in Maharashtra.
Later, he reportedly set up production units by partnering with local associates in various districts. Officials explained that chemicals were sourced from multiple locations outside Rajasthan. The finished products were then transported to other states before local distribution.
Elusive Tactics Made Capture Difficult
Capturing Ramesh Kumar proved challenging for law enforcement. The ANTF noted that he frequently changed his identities to avoid detection. He also avoided using mobile phones, which made electronic surveillance particularly difficult.
Intelligence inputs eventually suggested that he was attempting to shift his operations to eastern India. This information prompted a focused effort to track his movements.
Sustained Intelligence Leads to Kolkata Arrest
Based on sustained intelligence gathering, ANTF teams meticulously tracked the accused's movements between Kolkata and Pune. A special team was deployed to Kolkata for this operation.
With assistance from local police, authorities eventually traced Ramesh Kumar to his hideout in Kolkata. They successfully arrested him there, ending his eight-year run from the law.
Ongoing Investigation to Uncover Full Network
Police confirm that further investigation is now underway. Officers aim to verify the accused's financial assets and identify all his associates. They also plan to trace the complete supply chains and examine links to additional drug manufacturing units.
This arrest marks a crucial step in dismantling a significant narcotics network that spanned multiple states. The Rajasthan Police's ANTF continues its efforts to combat drug trafficking across the region.
