Hit-and-Run Investigation in Sri Ganganagar Unravels as Premeditated Murder by Wife and Lover
What initially appeared as a tragic hit-and-run incident in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, has now been exposed as a chilling case of cold-blooded murder orchestrated by a newly wedded wife and her long-time lover. The victim, Ashish Kumar, was brutally killed during what he believed was a routine evening walk with his wife, Anjali, on Friday, 29 January, according to police reports.
From Accident Claim to Murder Revelation
Anjali had initially reported to authorities that her husband was fatally struck from behind by an overspeeding motorcycle on a deserted road in village 01KLM. She claimed the assailant robbed her of jewellery before escaping, leaving her unconscious. However, the autopsy report delivered a starkly different narrative, completely dismantling her fabricated story.
The medical examination revealed no injuries consistent with a vehicular collision. Instead, Ashish's body bore multiple assault marks, including a head wound and clear signs of smothering. "There were clear indications of a brutal attack, not a vehicular collision," stated Sri Ganganagar superintendent of police Amrita Duhan, highlighting the discrepancy between Anjali's account and forensic evidence.
The Gruesome Plot Unfolds
Faced with inconsistencies between her statements and autopsy findings, police intensified their interrogation of Anjali, leading to her confession on Wednesday. Investigators revealed that Anjali had maintained a seven-year relationship with Sanjay but was allegedly forced to marry Ashish in October 2025.
Just sixteen days before the murder, Anjali and Sanjay began meticulously planning the crime. On the fateful evening, Anjali deliberately led Ashish to an isolated area after alerting Sanjay, who was waiting with accomplices Rohit and Siddharth. The group had previously conducted reconnaissance of the location.
Upon reaching the deserted spot, Sanjay and his associates attacked Ashish with sticks and iron rods, beating him until he collapsed. Once unconscious, Sanjay smothered him to death. The autopsy confirmed the cause as blunt force trauma combined with suffocation.
Staging the Crime Scene
To fabricate a robbery scenario, Anjali handed her jewellery and mobile phone to Sanjay before he fled. She then raised an alarm, presenting her fabricated story to locals and in-laws. Police further disclosed that Anjali had requested permission to pursue higher studies at her former college in Ravla, which investigators believe was a ploy to continue her relationship with Sanjay. Ashish's refusal to this request is suspected to have triggered the murder plot.
This case underscores how forensic science can unravel even the most carefully constructed deceptions, transforming a seemingly straightforward hit-and-run investigation into a revelation of premeditated homicide driven by personal relationships and betrayal.
