Punjab AGTF and Mohali Police Dismantle Foreign-Operated Gangster Network
In a significant crackdown, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab, collaborating with Mohali police, successfully dismantled a dangerous gangster module that was being directed by handlers based abroad. The operation led to the arrest of four key accused individuals and the seizure of sophisticated weaponry, as announced by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Monday.
Arrests and Seizures in Coordinated Operation
The joint team apprehended the suspects identified as Arman Singh from Ugana village in Patiala, Chirag from Nalas Khurd village in Patiala, Ravinder Singh alias Rahul from Nalas Kalan village in Rajpura, Patiala, and Akshay alias Prince from Dhamoli village in Patiala. During the operation, authorities recovered two foreign-made .30 calibre pistols along with eight live cartridges. Additionally, a Honda Amaze car used by the accused for transportation was confiscated, highlighting the operational scale of the module.
Link to Previous Criminal Activities Uncovered
Preliminary investigations have revealed that one of the arrested individuals, Akshay alias Prince, was involved in the July 2025 murder of a Wear Well showroom owner in Abohar. According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, Akshay provided crucial logistical support to the main assailants in that case. The ongoing investigation suggests that more arrests are anticipated in the coming days as authorities delve deeper into the network's connections.
Strategic Operation Based on Intelligence Tip-Off
AGTF Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Promod Ban detailed that the operation was initiated following a credible tip-off. A joint team established multiple checkpoints at strategic locations along the Ambala-Chandigarh highway. The accused were ultimately apprehended near the Janetpur link road, demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated police efforts in intercepting criminal movements.
Prevention of Major Crimes in Punjab
Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmandeep Hans emphasized that the arrested operatives had been assigned tasks by their foreign-based handlers to execute significant criminal acts within the state. Their arrest is believed to have averted serious incidents that could have threatened public safety and regional security. This operation underscores the proactive measures taken by law enforcement to combat organized crime influenced from overseas.
Legal Actions and Case Registration
A formal case has been registered under Sections 111 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 25(6) and 25(7)(i) of the Arms Act, at the Police Station Derabassi in Mohali. This legal framework ensures that the accused face appropriate charges for their alleged involvement in gangster activities and illegal possession of arms, reinforcing the state's commitment to upholding law and order.
