A 60-year-old homemaker was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly slitting the throat of her 80-year-old mother-in-law with a kitchen knife in their flat in Ambegaon Budruk, off Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass, around 2pm. The incident occurred when only the two women were present in the house.
Details of the Incident
Senior inspector Rahul Khilare of the Bharati Vidyapeeth police stated that the homemaker's husband (64), elder son, daughter-in-law, and younger son were away at the time of the murderous assault. The middle-class family resided in a 2 BHK flat in the Ambegaon Budruk area.
History of Disputes
According to the police, the homemaker and her mother-in-law had been fighting over household issues for the past few years. On Tuesday afternoon, an argument escalated, leading the homemaker to enter the mother-in-law's bedroom with a kitchen knife. She first assaulted her on the chest and hands. The victim screamed for help, but no one heard her. Subsequently, the homemaker slit her mother-in-law's throat.
Discovery and Arrest
The deceased's son, a retired individual, returned home to find his mother motionless and his wife holding the knife. Shocked, he immediately went to the nearby police chowkey. The homemaker also called the control room to inform the police about the murder. Police team visited the spot, detained her, and recovered the kitchen knife used in the crime. Later that night, they obtained permission from a local court to arrest her.
