Pune Police Arrest Trio for Brutal Assault on Truck Driver and Cleaner

In a shocking incident in Pune, the Ambegaon police have taken swift action by arresting two men and a transgender person for a violent attack on a truck driver and his cleaner. The assault, which occurred early Friday morning, involved physical abuse and the forced consumption of cow dung, highlighting a disturbing case of vigilantism.

Details of the Arrest and Complaint

Senior Inspector Sharad Zine of the Ambegaon police confirmed the arrests on Sunday, stating that a suo-motu complaint was registered against the trio. The victims, both from a minority community and residents of Karad, initially filed a non-cognisable offence on Friday, reporting abuse and beatings but omitting the cow dung incident. It was only after a video of the assault surfaced on social media that the full extent of the crime came to light.

Background of the Incident

The truck driver and cleaner were legally transporting four buffaloes from Karad to Mumbai, with proper permissions from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and veterinary doctors. Despite this, the suspects and their accomplices intercepted the vehicle on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass, falsely accusing the duo of illegal cow slaughter. They subjected the victims to obscene comments and physical slaps before escalating the abuse.

Role of Social Media in Investigation

The suspects uploaded a video of the assault to a social media platform, which was later discovered by a police constable. This digital evidence prompted the police to file the suo-motu complaint, leading to the arrests. This case underscores the growing impact of social media in aiding law enforcement, while also raising concerns about the spread of such content.

Additional Arrest in Separate Incident

In a related development, the Parvati police arrested a man from Janata Vasahat after a video emerged showing him allegedly saying "Pakistan Zindabad" during a conversation with a friend on Saturday evening. This arrest highlights ongoing tensions and the police's vigilance in monitoring such activities.

The Ambegaon police continue to investigate the assault case, emphasizing the importance of adhering to legal procedures and condemning acts of vigilantism. The victims are receiving support, and authorities are working to ensure justice is served in this distressing event.
