Pune Teen Murdered in Park, Minor Among Suspects Held

A shocking murder in a public park has once again raised serious questions about law and order in Pune. An 18-year-old unemployed teenager was brutally hacked to death by four youngsters in broad daylight, an attack that unfolded in front of other visitors.

Brutal Attack in Jijau Oxygen Park

The incident took place at Jijau Oxygen Park in Chandanagar around 7 pm on Saturday. The victim, identified by police as Lakhan Sakat (18), a resident of Chandannagar, was lured to the location by his assailants. According to Senior Inspector Seema Dhakane of the Chandannagar police, the four suspects, all known to Sakat, called him to the park.

Sakat arrived at the spot with a friend. When the park had few visitors, the four youngsters, armed with sharp weapons, launched a vicious assault on the duo. The attack, stemming from an old rivalry, was so severe that Sakat succumbed to his injuries. His friend also suffered injuries in the onslaught before the attackers fled the scene.

Police Response and Investigation

Acting on information about the attack, a police team rushed to the spot. The critically injured Lakhan Sakat was shifted to Sassoon General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The post-mortem report revealed he had sustained grievous injuries on his chest, neck, and face.

"All the suspects are from Chandannagar. We have detained one of them, a minor," stated Senior Inspector Seema Dhakane. The police have claimed to have identified all the individuals involved in the gruesome crime. The detention of a minor suspect highlights the disturbing involvement of youth in violent crimes.

A City's Deteriorating Security Landscape

This brazen murder in a public recreational space has sent shockwaves through the community and exposed the city's deteriorating law and order situation. The fact that the crime was committed in the presence of other park visitors underscores the audacity of the perpetrators.

The Chandannagar police are continuing their investigation to apprehend the remaining accused. The case has put a spotlight on juvenile delinquency and the need for more robust policing in public areas to prevent such horrific incidents. The community remains in fear, questioning the safety of its public spaces.
