Pune Road Rage: Trio Arrested for Assault After Crash

Violent Assault Follows Minor Traffic Collision in Pune

A seemingly minor traffic accident in Pune took a violent turn, leading to the arrest of three individuals. The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening in the Jadhavwadi area of Chikhali, escalated from a dispute over vehicle damage into a physical assault.

The trouble began around 4:30 PM on Saturday when a truck rear-ended a car. The car was occupied by a 47-year-old man from Chinchwad and his two friends. Following the collision, the car owner confronted the truck driver and demanded compensation for the damages to his vehicle.

The Confrontation Escalates into a Brutal Attack

Instead of resolving the matter amicably, the truck driver called the vehicle's owner to the spot. Hanumant Devkar (50) arrived with his son, Swami (26). The father-son duo refused to pay for the damages, leading to a heated argument.

As the situation grew more tense, the complainant began recording the conversation on his mobile phone. This act further infuriated Devkar, who then allegedly instructed the truck driver, Ramchandra Wavhale (25), to attack the car owner. Following this command, all three—Devkar, his son Swami, and driver Wavhale—began beating the 47-year-old victim.

The assault turned even more dangerous when Wavhale attempted to strike the victim with an iron rod. Fortunately, one of the victim's friends intervened, preventing a more serious injury. After the attack, the trio locked the truck and fled from the scene.

Police Action and Legal Consequences

The victim, who suffered injuries and had his glasses broken during the assault, immediately alerted the police control room. He was sent to a hospital for medical treatment and later lodged a formal complaint on Sunday.

Acting on the complaint, the Chikhali police swiftly arrested the three accused. They have been booked under sections 115 and 118 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The victim also reported that his gold chain was misplaced during the chaotic incident. Police officials have confirmed that their investigations into the matter are ongoing.
