Major Drug Bust in Pune: Police Seize Ganja Worth Rs 10 Lakh, Arrest Six

In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Pimpri Chinchwad police executed a series of coordinated raids across multiple locations on Tuesday, resulting in the seizure of ganja valued at approximately Rs 10 lakh and the arrest of six individuals, including four men and two women. The operations targeted areas in Bhosari, Pimpri, and Mhalunge, uncovering a network of drug distribution with potential interstate connections.

Bhosari Raid Nets 16 Kg Ganja Worth Rs 8 Lakh

Early Tuesday morning, a police team from Bhosari, led by Assistant Inspector Somnath Tapre, conducted a raid at Deokar Vasti in Bhosari. During this operation, they apprehended two men and confiscated a substantial quantity of 16 kilograms of ganja, with an estimated street value of Rs 8 lakh. The arrested individuals, who are residents of Dighi, provided crucial information during interrogation, revealing that they had sourced the ganja from a supplier based in Odisha. This disclosure points to an interstate drug trafficking route, highlighting the broader scope of the illegal trade.

Pimpri Operation Leads to Seizure of Rs 1 Lakh Worth of Ganja

Simultaneously, in Pimpri, joint teams from the crime branch and local police carried out raids at two separate locations within the Bhatnagar area. This operation resulted in the seizure of ganja worth Rs 1 lakh and the arrest of three individuals: two women and one man. During questioning, the women implicated another woman, who is alleged to have supplied them with the contraband. This development suggests a local distribution chain, with police now intensifying efforts to track down the additional suspect and dismantle the network further.

Mhalunge Arrest Uncovers Ganja Worth Rs 62,000

In a related action, the Bavdhan police, under the leadership of Assistant Inspector Ashok Dongre, arrested a man in Mhalunge and recovered ganja valued at Rs 62,000 from his possession. The arrested individual, identified as a construction worker originally from Katihar district in Bihar, is now under scrutiny as authorities investigate the source of the narcotics. Police officials have stated that they are actively probing where the accused procured the ganja, aiming to uncover any links to larger drug syndicates operating across state lines.

Ongoing Investigations and Broader Implications

The successful raids underscore the Pimpri Chinchwad police's commitment to combating drug-related crimes in the region. With a total of six arrests and ganja seizures amounting to Rs 10 lakh, these operations have dealt a significant blow to local drug peddling activities. Authorities are now focusing on deepening their investigations, particularly into the interstate connections revealed in the Bhosari case and the potential involvement of additional suspects in Pimpri. The police have emphasized that such crackdowns will continue as part of their ongoing efforts to curb the spread of narcotics and ensure public safety in Pune and its surrounding areas.
