Pune Police Launch Manhunt for Seven Youths in Brutal Assault Case
The Swargate police in Pune have initiated an intensive search operation to locate a gang of seven young individuals accused of violently attacking a 59-year-old resident of Maharshinagar. The assault occurred after the senior citizen objected to one of the gang members for unnecessary honking, highlighting a disturbing escalation of road rage into physical violence.
Incident Details: A Peaceful Afternoon Turns Violent
The troubling episode unfolded on February 17 within the premises of a housing society located in Maharshinagar. The victim, who works as a fruit trader in the Marketyard area, was present in the parking lot of his residential building around 4:30 PM. According to police reports, a youth arrived on a motorcycle and stopped at the main gate, where he began honking persistently.
The victim politely requested the youth to refrain from unnecessary honking, explaining that it was disturbing the residents of the society. In response, the youth defiantly stated that he was calling a friend and continued to honk. When the senior citizen approached him again to reiterate his request, the situation quickly deteriorated.
Escalation and Assault
The youth responded with verbal abuse before driving away from the scene. However, he returned shortly afterward, accompanied by six accomplices. The group immediately launched a physical attack on the victim, beating him with their hands. The primary accused escalated the violence by striking the victim with a cricket bat, causing significant injuries to his face.
The assault only ceased when other residents of the housing society rushed to the victim's aid, prompting the attackers to flee the location. The injured fruit trader received medical treatment for his facial injuries before formally lodging a complaint with the Swargate police station.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
Following the complaint, the Swargate police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include:
- Section 115: Voluntarily causing grievous hurt
- Section 118: Provisions related to grievous hurt
- Section 189: Rioting
- Section 190: Additional rioting charges
A police officer from the Swargate station confirmed that investigations are actively ongoing. "Our team is diligently working to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in this serious assault," the officer stated. The case underscores growing concerns about public safety and the enforcement of traffic discipline in residential areas.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of how minor disputes can rapidly escalate into violent confrontations, necessitating community vigilance and prompt police intervention.
