Pune Police Deport 130 Bangladeshi Nationals in 5 Years

In the last five years, the Pune city police have deported 130 Bangladeshi nationals, of which 53 were sent back over the last three months. Deputy commissioner of police (special branch) Sandip Bhajibhakare told TOI: 'Different police stations in the city identified and nabbed the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.'

'In case of the men, who had illegally crossed the border, maximum were workers at construction sites located in Katraj, Ambegaon, Lonikand and other parts of the city. The women were involved in prostitution rackets in the Budhwar Peth and Katraj areas,' Bhajibhakare said.

It was the Faraskhana police who nabbed the 53 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the first three months of 2026. Fourteen of them were arrested on Monday from the city's red light areas, he added.

'Almost all of them had fake Aadhaar cards and other Indian identification documents. We verified the papers on our system and it was all forged,' he said.

Earlier, the police used to file cases under the Passport Act against such people. However, the illegal foreign nationals were deported directly after verification in the last two days. The Central Government has issued a notification in this regard, allowing direct deportation of illegal Bangladeshi nationals after verification of their nationality.
