In a significant breakthrough, Pune City Police have apprehended four serial robbers responsible for terrorizing women across the city with a spree of chain snatchings and robberies over the past two months.
The Crime Spree Unfolds
According to police officials, the arrested individuals have been identified as Rahul Jagannath Bhavsar (26), Rohit Raju Bhavsar (22), Suraj Laxman Kshirsagar (22), and Akshay Karbhari Nanaware (22). This criminal quartet stands accused of committing at least 15 robberies targeting women in various parts of Pune since May 2024.
The police investigation revealed that these suspects specifically preyed on women walking alone or in isolated areas. Their modus operandi involved swift chain snatchings and bag thefts, leaving victims traumatized and demanding immediate police action.
Police Investigation and Breakthrough
The case gained momentum when authorities formed multiple teams to analyze CCTV footage from affected areas. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) R Raja confirmed that technical surveillance and human intelligence played crucial roles in tracking down the perpetrators.
Police recovered significant evidence from the suspects, including four motorcycles used in the crimes, seven mobile phones, and 145 grams of gold jewelry estimated to be worth approximately ₹9.5 lakh. The investigation also uncovered that all four accused are habitual offenders with previous criminal records.
Pattern of Criminal Behavior
Authorities noted that the suspects operated with concerning consistency, primarily targeting areas within the jurisdiction of Sinhagad Road, Warje, and Kondhwa police stations. Their criminal activities followed a distinct pattern of identifying vulnerable targets and executing quick getaways.
What makes this case particularly alarming is the revelation that these individuals were already out on bail for similar offenses when they embarked on this latest crime spree.
