Pune Man Arrested for Raping Minor, Faking Birth Certificate for Hospital Admission
Pune man rapes minor, forges birth certificate: Police

Police in Pune have registered a serious case against a 25-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl over a prolonged period, resulting in her pregnancy, and then attempting to conceal the crime by fabricating official documents.

Charges of Rape and Forgery

The Pune police filed a First Information Report (FIR) this month based on a complaint from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The accused faces charges under sections 376 (rape) and 196 (using evidence known to be false) of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant sections of the stringent Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.

Investigations reveal that the man, a resident of Pune, had been sexually exploiting the girl between 2023 and 2024. The abuse came to light when the minor, who had become pregnant, was admitted for delivery.

Deception at Sassoon Hospital

In a brazen attempt to hide the victim's true age, the accused allegedly submitted a fake birth certificate from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation at the government-run Sassoon General Hospital in Pune. This forged document was presented to prove the girl was an adult at the time of her delivery.

"We recovered a copy of the birth certificate used by the accused. We communicated with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, which revealed that the birth certificate is bogus," stated a senior police officer involved in the probe. The minor successfully gave birth to a child at the hospital.

Mother Also Implicated in the Crime

In a shocking twist, the girl's mother has also been booked by the police. Authorities state that she was reportedly aware that the man had been sexually exploiting her minor daughter for about a year yet failed to report the crime or protect her child.

"The accused and the girl’s mother, who was found involved in the offence, have been booked under IPC and Pocso sections. Further investigation is on," the senior officer added. The case underscores a severe breach of trust and guardianship.

The police action, initiated on Thursday, December 19, 2025, highlights the lengths to which perpetrators may go to conceal crimes against minors. The investigation remains active as officers gather further evidence.
