A tragic incident stemming from a reckless dare has resulted in the death of a young worker and the arrest of his friend in Pune's Maval region. The case highlights a shocking sequence of negligence and an attempt to conceal a crime.
The Fatal Dare and Its Aftermath
The victim, identified as 19-year-old Ram Kumar Sah from Bihar's Rohtas district, was working as a daily wage labourer in Navlakh Umbre village. On the evening of December 30, 2025, a casual dare among friends took a deadly turn. Sah's co-worker and roommate, 35-year-old Krishna Singh, challenged him to finish an entire bottle of liquor in one go. Singh promised to pay for that bottle and an additional one if Sah succeeded.
Accepting the challenge, Sah consumed the bottle within seconds. Shortly after, he began feeling severely unwell. Instead of recovering, his condition deteriorated over the next two days as he remained in their rented room. Despite Sah's obvious distress, Krishna Singh did not take him to a hospital or seek any medical assistance, fearing it would get him into trouble.
Concealment of Death and Discovery
Ram Kumar Sah's condition worsened, and he tragically passed away on January 1, 2026. Upon discovering his friend's body, Singh's reaction was one of panic and further criminality. He did not inform the authorities or Sah's family. Instead, he enlisted the help of another worker, and together they disposed of the body by dumping it in a nearby farm.
The grim discovery was made days later, on Wednesday, when locals noticed a foul smell emanating from the farm and found the decomposed body. With no immediate clues to identify the deceased, police from the Talegaon MIDC station began showing photographs in nearby workers' colonies. A worker finally identified the body as that of Ram Kumar Sah.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Following the identification, police traced Sah's rented accommodation and took Krishna Singh into custody. During questioning, Singh confessed to the entire sequence of events—from the dare to the concealment of the body.
Police Sub-Inspector Prashant Relekar stated that Krishna Singh has been arrested under sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He has been charged under Section 105 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and Section 238 for causing the disappearance of evidence. The search for the second worker who assisted in dumping the body is ongoing.
This heartbreaking incident underscores the deadly consequences of peer pressure and the catastrophic chain of events triggered by the failure to seek help. The application of the new BNS law in this case is also a significant legal aspect being watched closely.
