Pune Crane Accident Leads to Police Case Over Worker's Death

The Wanowrie police in Pune took action on Tuesday by registering a case against a crane operator and a labour contractor for allegedly neglecting workers' safety. This follows a tragic incident where a 47-year-old woman lost her life on the premises of a private company located in the Hadapsar Industrial Estate on February 18.

Details of the Fatal Incident

According to police reports, the deceased has been identified as Vaishali Bhosale, a resident of Hadapsar. Bhosale was working at the company site when the crane operator was in the process of shifting iron bars. The operation involved the use of worn-out ropes and webbing slings to lift heavy iron bars.

Critical Safety Failures

The police investigation revealed that the worn-out ropes and webbing slings snapped after the crane had lifted the heavy iron bars to a certain height. This failure caused the bars to fall directly onto Bhosale's head and shoulder, resulting in severe head injuries.

Immediate Response and Aftermath

Following the accident, Bhosale was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The police have emphasized that the incident underscores serious lapses in safety protocols at the industrial site.

Key Points from the Police Case:

  • The case targets the crane operator and labour contractor for alleged negligence.
  • Use of deteriorated equipment like ropes and slings is cited as a primary cause.
  • The accident highlights ongoing concerns about worker safety in industrial areas.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to safety standards to prevent such tragedies in the future.
