A tragic road accident in Chandigarh has claimed the life of a young Panjab University student. The victim, identified as Amrita Negi, succumbed to her injuries a day after being hit by a motorcycle.
Details of the Chandigarh Accident
The incident occurred on Thursday. According to police reports, Amrita Negi, a student of the department of evening studies at Panjab University, was hit by a motorcycle. The impact caused serious injuries. The native of Himachal Pradesh was living in a paying guest accommodation in Sector 15 of Chandigarh at the time.
Despite receiving medical treatment, her condition did not improve. She passed away on Friday due to the severity of her injuries.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
Officials from the Sector 11 police station swiftly took action following the student's death. They registered a criminal case of death due to negligence against the motorcycle rider.
Jaiveer Rana, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 11 police station, provided details of the case. "The girl student of PU was living in a PG accommodation in Sector 15. The accident took place on Thursday when a motorcycle-borne boy hit the girl, who sustained serious injuries and died on Friday," stated SHO Rana.
The police identified and arrested the accused involved in the accident. However, since the offence was bailable, the accused was later released on bail after the legal formalities were completed.
