Polite Robbers Conduct Bizarre Late-Night Burglary in Kheda Village
In a crime that defied conventional expectations, four men allegedly robbed a 76-year-old woman in Sevalia village, Kheda district, after waking her from sleep with calm greetings and requests for cooperation. The incident, which occurred around 11 pm on January 10, unfolded with an eerie politeness that masked the criminal intent.
A Startling Awakening
The elderly woman, who lives alone in her bungalow at MD Bungalows Society near the ACC company premises in Galteshwar taluka, had finished her dinner and retired for the night. Her peaceful sleep was interrupted when a man gently woke her. Opening her eyes, she found two men standing near her and two others seated close to her feet.
One of the intruders immediately covered her mouth and politely requested her not to raise an alarm. They then asked if they could tie her up, using her own dupattas to bind her hands and legs securely. Throughout this initial interaction, the men maintained a calm demeanor, speaking in measured tones.
The Robbery Proceeds with Unusual Courtesy
What followed was a robbery conducted without any apparent haste or aggression. The men inquired about where she kept her valuables. Fearing potential harm, the woman pointed toward a drawer that contained keys to her cupboard along with Rs 15,000 intended for daily expenses.
When questioned about jewellery, she initially responded negatively. However, one of the robbers noticed a gold ring on her finger. Without any force, the woman removed the ring herself and handed it over to them.
The two men proceeded to check cupboards and drawers but found nothing else of value. Before departing, they loosened the cloth binding her hands and instructed her not to make any noise. They added that she could untie her feet after they had exited the house completely.
Aftermath and Investigation
The woman remained unharmed throughout the entire ordeal. She stayed inside her home until morning, when she finally alerted the watchman stationed outside her residence. Police examination revealed a broken mosquito mesh and an open dining room window, indicating the probable entry point for the burglars.
According to police estimates, the robbers made away with approximately Rs 15,000 in cash and a gold ring weighing around 4 grams. The total value of the stolen items amounts to roughly Rs 65,000.
Sevalia police have registered a case of house trespass and robbery. Investigators are currently scanning nearby CCTV footage in an effort to identify the suspects. While the robbers' choice of words may have been polite, their actions constituted a serious criminal violation.
The incident highlights concerns about security for elderly individuals living alone, even in gated communities with watchman protection. The unusual nature of the crime—combining criminal intent with apparent courtesy—has left both investigators and local residents puzzled.
