A tragic accident occurred late Wednesday night in Mau district, Uttar Pradesh, when a dumper truck lost control and collided with a police patrol jeep, resulting in the death of a policeman and serious injuries to three others. The incident took place near Baniyapar on the Gorakhpur-Mau Highway in the Ghosi Kotwali area.
Victims and Injuries
Head constable Pawan Kumar Yadav, aged 38, a resident of Karmajeetpur, Chitaipur, Varanasi, succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at the District Hospital in Mau. The injured personnel include Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar Singh, 54, from Machwal, Chandauli; head constable Pritam Kumar Yadav, 40, from Narhan, Jaunpur; and PRD jawan Om Prakash Yadav, 45, from Ghosi. All three were initially taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Ghosi for primary treatment and later referred to the District Hospital in Mau for further care.
Police Investigation
According to Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Bahadur, the mobile patrol team was on duty when the dumper struck their vehicle from behind. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision. An FIR has been registered against the unidentified driver, and police are investigating the matter using CCTV footage to identify the culprit.
Senior officers, including DIG Police of Azamgarh Range, Sunil Kumar Singh, and Mau SP Kamlesh Bahadur, along with other officials, paid tributes to the late head constable Pawan Kumar Yadav at the Reserve Police Lines in Mau.
The police are continuing their efforts to apprehend the driver and determine the exact cause of the accident. Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
