Police Vehicle Targeted in Stone-Pelting Incident During Illegal Sand Mining Operation in Gaya
A police vehicle sustained significant damage after being targeted by stone-pelting from an agitated mob in Gaya on Monday morning. The incident unfolded on Karma Road within the jurisdiction of the Sindhugarh police station.
Illegal Sand Transport Sparks Confrontation
The confrontation began when a police team arrived in the village to take action against a tractor driver who was allegedly transporting sand illegally. According to official police statements, the driver, upon being stopped, emptied the sand from his trolley and raised an alarm, which quickly drew local residents to the scene.
The gathered villagers immediately questioned the police action, vehemently claiming that there was no sand present in the trolley and demanding the immediate release of the driver. When their verbal demands failed to yield results, the situation escalated dramatically.
Escalation and Damage to Police Property
The agitating crowd began pelting stones directly at the police team. This assault resulted in the windshield of a police vehicle being damaged. Fortunately, despite the violent nature of the attack, no police personnel sustained injuries during the incident.
In response, police officials employed mild force to disperse the crowd and restore order. From the spot, authorities detained two individuals for detailed questioning regarding their involvement in the stone-pelting.
Police Investigation and Security Measures
Sindhugarh Station House Officer Nilesh Kumar provided updates on the ongoing investigation. He confirmed that CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being meticulously scanned to identify other individuals who participated in the attack.
"Additional police force has been deployed in the area to ensure peace and security," stated SHO Nilesh Kumar. "The situation is now firmly under control, and we are taking all necessary steps to prevent any further disturbances."
