In immediate retaliation, Sub-Inspector Hemant Jha fired in self-defense, striking the accused in the leg. Dilip Kumar was promptly transported to NMCH for medical treatment, where he remains under care.
A separate case has been officially registered at Beur police station concerning the firing incident targeting the police officer. Background of the Jewelry Shop Robbery
The chain of events traces back to April 19, when five criminals riding two motorcycles executed a brazen robbery at a jewelry shop in Ghana Colony under the Ramakrishnanagar police station jurisdiction. The assailants assaulted the shopkeeper with a pistol butt and made off with jewelry valued between Rs 15-20 lakh. Taking the matter with utmost seriousness, authorities formed a special investigation team under the direction of City SP (East) Parichay Kumar.
SSP Kartikeya K Sharma detailed the investigative breakthrough, explaining that through technical and scientific analysis, including meticulous review of CCTV footage, police first apprehended an accused named Udit Kumar. "His interrogation proved instrumental in identifying and arresting the main accused Dilip Kumar on Tuesday evening, along with his accomplice Rohan Kumar alias Rakesh Kumar," Sharma stated.
Investigation Reveals Criminal Network
During subsequent questioning, it emerged that after the robbery, the criminal gang proceeded directly to a farm in the Sipara area, where they divided their loot and strategically hid their weapons. "When the police team reached the farm with Dilip, he attempted to flee and opened fire. An officer responded in self-defense and shot the accused in the leg. Dilip, a resident of Beur, stands as the prime accused. We have now arrested a total of five individuals connected to this case," the SSP elaborated.
The investigation has identified multiple accomplices: Udit, an Anisabad resident who transported the accused on his motorcycle after the incident; Rohan, a Vikas Nagar, Kurji resident who participated directly in the robbery; Sunil Kumar from Bela Kuan, who acted as a receiver of stolen silver; and Santosh Kumar, under Malsalami police station jurisdiction, from whose residence the stolen silver was recovered.
SSP Sharma confirmed to reporters that intensive raids are ongoing to apprehend any remaining individuals involved in the robbery conspiracy. The case continues to develop as authorities piece together the full extent of the criminal operation.
