Panchmahal Police SOG Recovers Stolen Firearms in Coordinated Godhra Operation

The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Panchmahal police executed a significant operation resulting in the seizure of multiple illegal firearms from residential and commercial premises in Godhra town. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, law enforcement officers targeted locations in the Vachla Odha area, uncovering a cache of weapons that included sophisticated imported firearms.

Intelligence-Led Raid Uncovers Illegal Arsenal

Investigations began after authorities received credible information regarding Ahmedhussain Yusuf Mohan, a local paint shop owner, allegedly storing unlicensed firearms at his residence. The SOG team, with support from Godhra B Division police personnel, conducted a thorough search of Mohan's home. This initial raid yielded substantial evidence including an imported double-barrel rifle, four air guns, four rifle telescopes, and multiple cartons containing air gun pellets.

Interrogation Reveals Firearm Collection Network

During subsequent questioning, Mohan provided crucial details about his involvement with illegal weapons. He confessed to purchasing two double-barrel rifles from Rais Hussain Mitha, a resident of Bhilodiya Plot in Godhra. According to his statement, one of these rifles had been stored at his commercial establishment. Following this revelation, police immediately searched Mohan's shop where they discovered additional weaponry including another imported double-barrel shotgun, two more air guns, two cases of air gun pellets, eleven spent shotgun cartridges, four live cartridges, various gun covers, and Mohan's mobile phone for further investigation.

Forensic examination confirmed that none of the recovered firearms possessed valid licenses or registration documents. When questioned about his motives, Mohan stated that he maintained this collection purely out of personal interest in firearms, though authorities continue to investigate potential criminal connections.

Stolen Weapons Linked to Previous Theft Case

Further investigation established that the two seized shotguns had been stolen from agricultural property. One weapon originated from the United Kingdom while the other was manufactured in Czechoslovakia. Both firearms were identified as stolen items taken from farmer Arif Ghanchi's residence located on Daruniya-Samli Road near Godhra. Additionally, one rifle belonged to Ghanchi's cousin, Anas Bhatuk, who had also reported the theft.

The original theft incident had been formally registered with Godhra B Division police on February 3, 2025, creating an official case that remained active until the recent breakthrough. The recovery operation has provided significant momentum to this ongoing investigation.

Police Pursue Additional Suspect in Weapons Case

Law enforcement authorities have identified Rais Hussain Mitha as a key accused in this illegal firearms network. Police teams are currently conducting extensive searches to locate and apprehend Mitha, who remains at large following the raids. The investigation continues to explore possible connections to broader criminal activities in the region.

This operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-based policing in combating illegal weapon circulation in Gujarat. The Panchmahal police have demonstrated their commitment to addressing serious crimes through coordinated action between specialized units and local police divisions.
