Martur police in Bapatla district delivered a significant blow to an inter-state drug trafficking network. They seized 50 kilograms of cannabis from a car at the Bollapalli toll plaza. Officers arrested two suspects during the operation.

Details of the Seizure and Arrests

Police confiscated three mobile phones, ₹2,700 in cash, and the vehicle used in the crime. Bapatla DSP G Ramanjaneyulu revealed these facts at a press conference held on January 15.

The arrested individuals are B Abdul Aziz, aged 37, from Mandekolu, Dakshina Bazaar in Karnataka, and Shaikh Husnara, aged 42, from New Colony in Chittoor district.

Background of the Accused

Aziz works as a taxi driver in Bengaluru. He previously established contacts with cannabis suppliers operating in the Araku hills near the Odisha border. Police investigations show the accused had transported cannabis from Araku to Bengaluru for sale on earlier occasions.

Timeline of the Crime

On January 13, the accused traveled from Bengaluru to Nellore. They picked up Husnara on the bypass road and proceeded towards Araku. On January 15, they allegedly purchased 25 packets of cannabis. Each packet weighed approximately 2 kilograms, totaling 50 kg, for ₹1.15 lakh.

Police Operation and Interception

Acting on specific intelligence, Martur Inspector Y Srinivasa Rao and his team conducted vehicle checks at the Bollapalli toll plaza. They successfully intercepted the car carrying the illegal consignment.

SP Umamaheshwar IPS commended the Martur police and the Eagle Team for their effective operation. This seizure marks a crucial step in disrupting the supply chain of narcotics in the region.
