A police inspector in Tamil Nadu was placed under suspension on Sunday following a sexual harassment complaint filed by a woman officer. S N Thileeban, who served as the inspector of Arumuganeri police station, was suspended by Tirunelveli city police commissioner Deshmuk Shekar Sanjay, who is also the DIG in charge of the Tirunelveli range.
Departmental Action Initiated
According to a senior police official, the suspension was ordered after receiving a complaint from the woman personnel. The official stated, 'Following a complaint from the woman personnel, we have placed him under suspension as per departmental proceedings. Upon further investigation, necessary action would be taken against the inspector.'
Background of the Case
The woman officer who filed the complaint had been selected for induction into the newly formed 'Singapen Special Task Force.' The nature of the alleged harassment has not been disclosed in detail, but it prompted immediate disciplinary action from the police department.
Inspector Denies Allegations
Prior to his suspension, Inspector Thileeban released a video on his Instagram page denying the allegations of sexual harassment. He claimed that while he might speak harshly to ensure work is completed, he has never subjected any woman official to harassment. He also expressed his readiness to cooperate with the investigation.
