A deeply disturbing incident has rocked the mining district of Korba in Chhattisgarh, where a 19-year-old girl was allegedly subjected to a brutal gang rape by five men. What has sent shockwaves through the police establishment is the alleged involvement of a driver attached to the state police's very own Dial-112 emergency response system.
Chilling Details of the Assault
The horrific crime took place on the night of January 8 in Bankimongra, a mining township located roughly 200 kilometers north of Raipur. According to the police investigation, one of the accused, who was known to the survivor, cunningly lured her out of her home under false pretenses. He then took her to a deserted and isolated area where four other men were waiting for them.
In a premeditated act of violence, the five men allegedly took turns raping the young woman. After committing the heinous crime, they fled the scene, leaving the survivor in an unconscious state. Showing immense courage, the victim later managed to return to her home and confide in her family about the traumatic ordeal.
Swift Medical Aid and Police Action
The family immediately rushed the survivor to a government medical college hospital for urgent medical treatment and necessary counselling. They also formally lodged a complaint with the police, setting the legal process in motion. The police acted promptly by registering a Zero FIR initially at the Civil Lines police station in Korba. This FIR was later transferred to the Bankimongra police station, which has jurisdiction over the area where the crime occurred, for a detailed investigation.
Forensic teams were dispatched to meticulously examine the crime scene for evidence. Investigators also recorded detailed statements from witnesses and family members to build a strong case. As of Saturday, the police confirmed that they have arrested two of the accused, including the Dial-112 emergency service driver. A massive manhunt is underway to apprehend the remaining three suspects.
Embarrassment for the Police Force and Assurance of Justice
The alleged participation of an individual linked to a critical police emergency system has caused significant embarrassment and concern within the law enforcement agency. Officials acknowledged that this connection has tarnished the force's image and raised serious questions. However, they have assured the public of a thorough and impartial investigation.
Korba Superintendent of Police Siddharth Tiwari has taken direct charge of the case. He provided an update, stating, "The other three accused will be arrested soon." His statement underscores the police department's commitment to ensuring that all perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice. The survivor continues to receive medical care and psychological support as the legal proceedings advance.
