Joint Operation Targets Illegal Mining Routes in Aravallis

Police officers and forest department officials conducted a joint operation on Saturday. They blocked all unauthorised access routes to Pinangwan hills in Haryana's Nuh district. The action aimed to curb illegal mining activities in the sensitive Aravalli region.

Sealing Makeshift Roads and Paths

The operation specifically targeted a network of makeshift roads and paths. Authorities allege these routes were created to transport illegally mined stones from the Aravalli hills. Officials identified these access points and permanently sealed them.

This sealing prevents further movement of heavy machinery and vehicles into mining sites. A police spokesperson stated the administration maintains strict vigil against illegal mining throughout Nuh district.

The spokesperson emphasized close coordination with the Mining department. He said continuous and effective action is being taken to control such activities.

Operation Led by Local Police

Pinangwan Police Station House Officer Sub-Inspector Nikhil Kumar led the latest operation. This action follows similar enforcement earlier this month.

On January 13, a team from the Mining department seized a tractor-trolley allegedly engaged in illegal mining in the area. They issued a challan against the operator under relevant provisions.

Officers confirmed the campaign against illegal mining will continue in coming days. They promised strict legal action against all individuals and entities found involved.

Long-Standing Effort to Protect Aravallis

The blocking of unauthorised roads forms part of a long-standing effort. Authorities aim to restrict access to illegal mining sites in the Aravalli range within Nuh.

Last July, the Haryana government informed the Supreme Court about similar actions. The district administration had identified and blocked two unauthorised roads carved through agricultural fields and forest land.

These roads reportedly reduced travel distance from Rajasthan by approximately 25 kilometers. They were being used to facilitate transport of illegally mined minerals.

Supreme Court Ban on Mining

Mining activities in the Aravalli hills face strict prohibition. This ban covers districts including Nuh, Gurgaon, Faridabad and Rewari.

The Supreme Court ordered this prohibition in 2002. The court further strengthened its directions in 2009. The ban does not apply in Rajasthan.

Authorities remain determined to enforce these environmental protections. Their recent actions demonstrate ongoing commitment to preserving the Aravalli ecosystem.
