Redbird Aviation Plane Crashes in Chatra Forest, All Seven On Board Feared Dead
A tragic aviation incident unfolded on Monday evening when a plane operated by Redbird Aviation crashed in a forested area of Chatra district, with preliminary reports indicating that all seven individuals on board have lost their lives. The aircraft, which had taken off from Ranchi en route to New Delhi, lost contact with air traffic control (ATC) shortly after departure, leading to a frantic search and rescue operation.
Timeline of the Crash and Immediate Response
The flight departed from Ranchi at approximately 7:11 pm on Monday, heading for Delhi. However, around 7:34 pm, communication with the ATC snapped, and the plane disappeared from radar screens. The Kolkata ATC immediately sounded a high alert and initiated standard search and rescue protocols, alerting the district magistrate of Chatra district. The crash was confirmed later in the evening, around 10 pm, after debris was located in a remote forest stretch near Karmatand village in Kesoria panchayat, under Simaria block.
Local villagers reported hearing a loud explosion-like sound and witnessing an object falling from the sky, which prompted them to investigate. They discovered the wreckage in the area, situated about 107 kilometers northwest of Ranchi, and quickly notified authorities. In response, teams from the district administration, local police, and disaster response units were mobilized to comb the dense forest zone for survivors and evidence.
Details of the Victims and On-Board Personnel
The crew on the ill-fated flight included Capt Vivek Vikas Bhagat and Capt Savrajdeep Singh, both experienced pilots. The passengers comprised Dr Vikash Kumar Gupta, paramedic Sachin Kumar Mishra, and Sanjay Kumar, a 41-year-old patient suffering from burn injuries who was being referred to Delhi from Devkamal Hospital in Ranchi. Accompanying Sanjay Kumar were Archana Devi and Dhuru Kumar, who served as attendants during the medical transfer.
Simaria SDPO Subham Khandelwal, who was present at the crash site, stated that initial assessments suggest no survivors among the seven persons on board. Chatra deputy commissioner Kirtishiree G confirmed the details, noting that rescue teams had been dispatched to the location immediately after the incident was reported.
