A 19-year-old woman from a village in Pilibhit district has filed a serious complaint against three fellow villagers, alleging a campaign of physical assault and online defamation aimed at sabotaging her marriage prospects. The police registered a formal case on Friday based on her allegations.
Chronology of Harassment and Threats
According to the complaint lodged with the Pilibhit police, the accused—two brothers and their nephew—initially targeted the woman on social media. They allegedly sent false and derogatory messages about her character to a prospective groom based in Bareilly, directly threatening to stop the marriage alliance. The woman first informed her parents about these incidents on December 10.
In an attempt to resolve the matter amicably, she then approached the family members of the accused. However, this move backfired, as she claims the accused family members attempted to outrage her modesty during this encounter.
Alleged Physical Assault and Attempted Rape
The situation escalated dramatically on December 17. The woman alleges that the trio forcibly entered her house around 6 pm. Once inside, they abused her, assaulted her physically, and even attempted to rape her. The brazen attack within her own home marked a severe intensification of the harassment.
The complainant has provided substantial digital evidence to support her claims. This evidence includes video call recordings and screenshots of the threatening social media messages sent to the potential groom.
FIR Registered, Accused Still at Large
Acting on her complaint, the police have taken official action. Station House Officer (SHO) Amit Kumar confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Friday evening. The accused have been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The specific sections invoked are:
- BNS Section 75(2) pertaining to sexual harassment.
- BNS Section 333 for house-trespass with preparation for causing hurt.
- BNS Section 351(3) for criminal intimidation.
SHO Kumar added that while the legal process has been initiated, the three accused individuals are yet to be arrested. The police investigation into the serious allegations is currently ongoing.
