Patna Student Murder Solved: Boyfriend Arrested for Strangling

Patna Police Crack Diploma Student Murder Case, Arrest Boyfriend

In a significant breakthrough, Patna police announced on Wednesday that they have successfully solved the brutal murder of a 21-year-old female diploma student. The victim's body was discovered in a rented accommodation located in Raghopur village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Bihta police station area in Patna district. The grim discovery was made late on the night of April 13, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Relationship Strain Leads to Fatal Confrontation

According to police officials, the prime suspect in this heinous crime is the victim's boyfriend. The accused allegedly strangled the young woman after she persistently pressured him to marry her. Law enforcement authorities have since apprehended the boyfriend, who has reportedly confessed to committing the murder. Both individuals were identified as final-year students at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology in Bihta, adding a tragic dimension to this academic setting.

The deceased has been identified as Anupama Kumari, a native of Aurangabad who had been residing in a rented house in Raghopur village for approximately two years. The accused is Atharva Shrivastav, also known as Raj, hailing from Buxar. City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh provided detailed insights into the case, revealing that Anupama and Atharva had been in a relationship for several months. However, their bond was marred by frequent disputes that severely strained their connection.

Escalating Tensions Culminate in Murder

The tipping point occurred when Anupama intensified her demands for marriage, which Atharva resisted. Matters worsened when another argument erupted over photographs taken during a two-day college event held just two days prior to the murder. On April 12, Atharva contacted Anupama around noon under the pretense of delivering a laptop to her. He proceeded to her rented room, where their disagreement quickly escalated into a physical altercation.

During the confrontation, Atharva allegedly strangled Anupama to death. He then locked the room from the outside and fled the scene. Anupama's lifeless body was found on her bed the following night, April 13, prompting an immediate police investigation.

Comprehensive Investigation and Arrest

In response to the crime, authorities swiftly formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case thoroughly. This team comprised the Danapur DSP-II, the Bihta SHO, and a dedicated technical unit. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was dispatched to examine the crime scene meticulously, while the victim's body was sent for a postmortem examination.

Preliminary findings from the investigation confirmed that death resulted from strangulation. Authorities are awaiting the complete medical report to determine whether any sexual assault occurred. Atharva was subsequently arrested and, during interrogation, admitted to committing the crime, providing a clear account of the events leading to Anupama's tragic demise.

This case highlights the severe consequences of unresolved relationship conflicts and underscores the importance of effective conflict resolution mechanisms. The Patna police's prompt action in solving the murder brings a measure of justice to the victim's family, though the loss remains irreplaceable.
